I used layers of lines to form the picture, working quickly to music and experimenting with colours. It is very satisfying to work with different sized brushes to bring rhythm and emphasis, as I build the composition.

This man struck me with his presence. I was impressed by his quiet strength, confidence and an almost brooding depth of character in his manner and dark looks.
The painting is one of a series of linear portraits of him,
all from one morning session at Dynamic Drawing, Byron Bay, Australia.
